Matt's and Reese's Picks - Week 5

Reese's Picks
1. Virginia -6 @ Duke - Take Virginia to cover. There is no such thing as homefield advantage at Duke's stadium, actually.... I can't even tell you the name of Duke's stadium

2. Alabama +15 @ Florida - Take Alabama to cover. No real reasoning on this one

3. Texas Tech +2 @ Texas A&M - Take Tech to cover. A&M I don't think are back on top yet this year like they were 2 years ago.

4. Georgia Tech +10 @ Virginia Tech - Take Georgia Tech to cover. I think VT is a little overrated and GT has proven to be a very tough ballclub this year.

5. Ohio State -7 @ Iowa - Take Ohio State to cover
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matt's Pick's
1. Virginia -6 at Duke - The Dukies have their best shot for an ACC win since blowing the game to Wake Forest 3 weeks. They will cover and may win outright.

2. Alabama +15 at Florida - Florida wants revenge for the beatdown they got last season. They'll get it, but Alabama will cover.

3. Texas Tech +2 at Texas A&M - The Aggies will roll son.

4. Georgia Tech +10 at Virginia Tech - VT seems somehwhat weak, and I wanna take the Jackets. Two words prevent me from doing so. Reggie. Ball.

5. Ohio State -7 at Iowa - Iowa neede OT to beat Syracuse. OSU won at Texas by 17. They win here by about 10.

Who Do I Dislike More, Virginia Tech or Georgia Tech?

I can't stand this car and I can't stand this hokie!
Talk about there ever being a game where I equally dislike each team the same amount, this would be that game. If I could have the option to choose for both teams to lose, I definitely would. I guess I have more hard feelings towards Georgia Tech this weekend because of the strange outcomes they have had against my Clemson Tigers but I do know one thing, I'm already tired of the Calvin Johnson articles.
www.theacc.com - Plugged In: Pass the Aspirin - Containing Calvin Johnson Can be a Real Headache for Defenses

The GT Yellowjackets are a 9 point underdog at VT, but I got to think that they will cover that. I don't see them getting blown out like they did last year up there in Blacksburg. Again, I'm not saying that because I like them, I'm saying that because I do think that the VT football team is a little overrated and I think GT is actually very good. Even though they didn't absolutely smoke Virginia last week, and looked a little sore against Troy, they still ended up winning those games pretty handily. Look for Reggie Ball to make a key mistake near the end costing GT the game, but I think they'll cover at least. I don't know about you, but I'll be pulling for the Refs!

Which Team Do I Dislike More
Coach: VT - Frank Beamer
QB: GT - Reggie Ball
Stadium: GT - aka High School Stadium
Tradition: GT - I can't stand that stupid car that runs out onto the field
Uniforms: VT - I love the GT colors, besides, VT's uniforms are ugly
Special Teams: VT - just because all commentators make such a big deal about it
Offense: GT - Calvin Johnson will never be liked it my book, Reggie Ball as well
Defense: GT - Just because my good friend Jeff Parks says that they have one of the best defensive coordinators in the Country. Congratulations Jeff, you just blew it for GT.
Mascot: VT - I can't stand that Hokie

VT = 4 GT = 5 ---- It's official, I dislike Georgia Tech more than I do Virginia Tech

Yes Believe It, For It Is Real! The Rutgers Scarlet Knights Are Ranked

This guy still can't believe that his Rutgers Scarlet Knights are ranked!

Now, I know what you're about to say, "Rutgers hasn't played anybody good." That's true, but they have absolutely stomped over all of their opponents averaging 34 points per game and only giving up 7 points per game. For the first time since 1976, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are ranked! Thing about this is, there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. They are ranked 23rd in the AP, USA Today, and VI polls. (VI = Vegas Insider)

The fact of the matter is this though. The Rutgers football team are finally ranked after 30 years of misery, but there is one problem. After this Saturday when they lose to South Florida, they'll probably have to wait another 30 years! The game is at South Florida and Rutgers are a 4 point favorite, but you have to think that their luck will run out if not this week then extremely soon. In addition, with their passing game struggling over the weeks, and losing another receiver to an injury, I just can't picture this team going to South Florida and winning. So for all you gamblers out there, bank on South Florida not only covering, but winning this week.

*** University of South Florida is actually located in the middle part of Florida. It's location is Tampa. This game is on ESPN 2 this Friday night, Rutgers will choke.

Which Team Is Better?
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
South Carolina Gamecocks

Matt's And Reese's Picks - Week 4

Matt's Picks
1. North Carolina +17 @ Clemson - North Carolina gave up 42 points to Furman, Thats all you need to know. Clemson rolls.
2. BC -7 at @ NC State - Every game BC has played has been a nailbiter. In their only road game, they struggled to get past Central Michigan. NC State is wounded and will be hungry at home. They keep it close enough to cover.
3. Wake +2.5 @ Mississippi - Wake wins outright. 5-0 when Clemson comes to town.
4. Notre Dame -3 @ Michigan State - Something funny happened on the way to an undefeated season. Michigan. Now the Irish must travel to East Lansing to avenge to try and avenge last years flag planting. They won't. Sparty wins outright.
5. Penn State +17.5 @ Ohio State - Penn State is a midlevel Big 10 team with an average offense and an average defense. The Buckeyes are a legitimate title contender. Ohio State blows the doors off in this one.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reese's Picks
1. North Carolina +17 @ Clemson - Take Clemson , this one will be a blowout, this is not a trap game.
2. BC -7 @ NC State - Take Boston College to cover this spread, NC State's terrible!
3. Wake +2.5 @ Mississippi - Wake Forest surprises everyone and remains undefeated!
4. Notre Dame -3 @ Michigan State - It wouldn't surprise me if Notre Dame loses this, but I'm going to go with my faith in Charlie Weiss and say there is no way they can lose 2 games in a row. Notre Dame covers.
5. Penn State +17.5 @ Ohio State - I'm taking Ohio State all the way to cover this one.

Who'd a Thunk It

Charlie Whitehurst made the most of his one touch on Sunday afternoon scampering 14 yards for a touchdown in a blowout win over the Tennessee Titans. Who had Chaz Whitehurst scoring a touchdown before Mr. President himself, Reggie Bush? In another shocking development, Bush and the Saints are 2-0. Two relatively winnable road games and some solid play from a pair of BB's (Bush and Brees) have the Saints undefeated and hosting Monday Night Football. The beauty of the NFL is its unpredictability.

This Job Will Be Open Very Soon - Think Spurrier Will Be Interested In It?

Miami is out of the rankings for the first time since 1999. The Miami Hurricanes had 107 consecutive top 25 poll appearances that was the nation's longest current streak. I think it's safe to say with the very average seasons Larry Coker has had with Miami for the past few years and with the 1-2 start this season, he will be forced to quit fairly soon. My friend Jeff Parks made an interesting statement to me today. He said with Spurrier not having the talent to have a great offense at Carolina, just like leaving the Washington Redskins in the NFL because he couldn't accomplish what we wanted, is there any chance he would try and leave South Carolina to pursue a school like a Miami like he left Washington? Meaning, a Miami would put him in a position with already great talent and he wouldn't have to still wait another 3 more years to attempt to get good enough players in at Carolina to accomplish his expectations.

I don't think we can rule this out at all (even though Spurrier hasn't received his lifetime membership to Augusta National). I think this job will definitely come open in a few months from now, will Spurrier show interest or no? What are your thoughts?

Matt's and Reese's Picks - Week 3

Matt's Picks - Florida -3.5 @ Tennessee
The Vols were clearly looking ahead to this game last week as they barely survived a game Air Force team 31-30. Florida has tuned up for this game by stomping Southern Miss and Central Florida. Florida will win but the Vols will cover.

Michigan +6 @ Notre Dame
Lloyd Carr trys to win his road opener for the first time since 1999. He won't but he'll keep it close and the Wolverines will cover.

Miami +4.5 @ Louisville
The Ville has a very potent offense, but their defense showed it had some holes against Kentucky. Miami has the better defense and they will win straight up.

Clemson +4.5 @ Florida State
Both teams should be undefeated. However, Clemson's special teams gaffes cost them against BC last week while Florida State had a tougher than expected home opener against Troy. Clemson will come out a little flat after their ACC dreams were almost dashed in their first conference game. Florida State will cover.

Nebraska +18 @ Southern Cal
I hate spreads this high involving good teams. Southern Cal dominated Arkansas but were slow starting. Nebraska has a better defense than the Hogs, so they will keep this game relatively close in the Coliseum.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reese's Picks - Florida -3.5 @ Tennessee - Take Tennessee to Cover
I've been saying it all summer, don't buy in to the Urban Legend Meyers offense. Tennessee seems to be riding on Rocky Top High after demolishing Cal, and sneaking out a tough victory against Air Force. Tennessee will not only cover, they will win!

Michigan +6 @ Notre Dame - Take Notre Dame To Cover
This is a no brainer. Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy. Notre Dame wins by a couple of touchdowns, Michigan won't be able to hang with them this year.

Miami +4.5 @ Louisville - Take Miami To Cover
With the loss of their running back, and just the fact that Louisville shouldn't be able to hang with Miami, that's why I'm picking their hurricanes. I know thats a dumb reason, but if I'm wrong, I won't go with this reasoning anymore.

Clemson +4.5 @ Florida State - Take Clemson to Cover
Keep in mind, even though Clemson lost a heartbreaker to Boston College last week, Clemson offense looks much better than FSU's offense and their defense isn't bad at all. If all 3 cylinders are working correctly, look for Clemson to win!

Nebraska +18 @ Southern Cal - Take Southern Cal to Cover
I don't really know much about this game other than I don't believe in Nebraska just yet. USC is still looking mighty tough, go with them.

Nana Nah Nah, Nana Nah Nah, HEY HEY....GoodBye!

Georgia Quarterback Joe Tereshinski

Blow the whistle ref! Tell this kid to go take a seat on the bench for the rest of the season, he's done! After injuring his ankle into 41 different pieces against the South Carolina Gamecocks this past Saturday night in Columbia, and watching Matthew Stafford come into the game and lead his bulldogs to a 15-0 shutout of the gamecocks, I think it's safe to say Joe Tereshinski's career is done.

Doctors expect him to miss four to six weeks with an injured ankle, and Tereshinski said he'll be back sooner than later. "It doesn't matter how much pain it is on the fourth week. I am out there," the senior told reporters, according to the Atlanta Journal Consitution. Yea dude, you'll be out there, on the bench! Stafford will be the starter for the rest of the year for the Georgia Bulldogs! Joe....you go take care of that ankle, that's the important thing, go let your bulldogs go out there without ya and do their thing!

This Had To Be What The Florida State Seminoles Were Looking At Last Week

Even This Guy Was Looking At The FSU Schedule Like This
09/04/06 - @ Miami
09/09/06 - BYE
09/16/06 - Clemson
09/23/06 - Rice
10/05/06 - North Carolina State
10/14/06 - Duke
10/21/06 - Boston College
10/28/06 - Maryland
11/04/06 - Virginia
11/11/06 - Wake Forest
11/18/06 - Western Michigan
11/25/06 - Florida
The state of Alabama has a strong combination of teams every year who give their state a chance to win a National Championship. Such powerhouse programs include: Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, & the Troy Trojans! Troy University is a school that offers students a future of possibilities that make it super easy to recruit student athletes. This past week we saw the Troy Magnum Trojans go to Florida State and take the Seminoles right down to the wire!
In reality, last Monday night Florida State played on National TV against the Miami Hurricanes. What probably happened was this: Bowden gave his players Tuesday off, Wednesday they watched the Clemson film, Thursday they did a walk-through, Friday they had the day off, then played Troy Trojans on Saturday. What I'm saying is this, Clemson def. has a shot against these guys but don't think that FSU is just gosh awful. They were looking way past this game against the Troy Trojans, they had some unlucky bounces go there way (Fumble 7 times, 3 of them Troy recovered). If you look at the stats, they won that, just like Clemson def. won the stat battle against BC, but games aren't played on stats are they?
Even though Florida State right now has a total of 46 rushing yards in 2 games, I'm sure they'll snap out of that slump against Clemson with an all-out track meet (hopefully they won't). With a few injuries on the Clemson defense, all of which are key players, it's going to be tough to stop them. Just because Troy held them down for a good while doesn't mean anything, this will be a great game to watch and won't be a cake walk for either team.

The Police want to help Bowden send out A Message in a Bottle to the Football God's. Message in a Bottle Just a Team. A team lost on the field. Another lonely Saturday With no one here but me More loneliness Than any team could bear. Rescue us before we fall into despair. I'll send an SOS to the ACC. I'll send an SOS to the ACC. I hope that someone gets my, I hope that someone gets my, I hope that someone gets my Message in a bottle.
Keep it classy....Way to lose the game MR. BowDown

Reese and Matt's Picks For Week 2 In College Football

If you check out http://www.vegasinsider.com/ you can see the opening lines for Week 2 games in College Football.

Reese's Picks 1. (-1.5) Georgia @ South Carolina - Take Georgia to Cover - This is a very interesting line. This game between these two teams are close every year. The line started off at 3.5 I think in Georgia's favor, as you see it's dropped down to -1.5. Other than the qb position, you won't see near as many holes in their team as we saw in South Carolina's team last week.

2. (-2.5) Clemson @ Boston College - Take Clemson to Cover - Boston College had a very weak performance last week against Central Michigan. They lost a ton of starters from last years team and Will Proctor for Clemson as we saw is going to do just fine at qb.

3. (-13) Virginia Tech @ North Carolina - Take Virginia Tech to Cover - No specific reason for this one other that VT looked great last week. They are still a powerhouse and will take care of UNC.

4. Ohio State @ (-2.5) Texas - Take Texas to Cover - Texas....at home....good showing from their qb last week......it's still a toss up, so I'm going to take Texas.

5. Penn State @ (-7.5) Notre Dame- Take Notre Dame to Cover - That's right everybody, I have taken all of the favorites this week of these 5 games to cover their spreads.

_________________________________________________________

Matt's Picks - 1. (-7.5) ND vs. Penn State - The Nits had 80 yards rushing last week. Against Akron. 42 yards came on a reverse. Notre Dame wins in a rout.

2. (-2.5)Texas vs. Ohio State - Ohio State will lose to be sure. But it will be closer than 2 and a half points.

3. (-2.5) Clemson vs. Boston College - BC could have lost to Central Michigan last week. Clemson's defense will hold down the BC attack and Clemson will cover.

4. (-3) Georgiavs. South Carolina - The Cock N' Fire hit a snag last week. They scored one legit touchdown against Mississippi State despite great field position thanks to a great defensive showing. Even with their quarterback issues Georgia will cover here.

5. VT -13 vs. North Carolina - Hokie Hokie Hokie high. Here we go VPI. North Carolina lost at home last week to Rutgers. VT covers easily.

Where Does OU Rank?
Can I get a Witness! Adrian Peterson is awesome. I mean I love this guy. I bleed Oklahoma football. I know it was only UAB but the guy had 24 carries for 139 yds rushing and 1 catch for 69 yds and 2 TD's. One from pounding the ball and one from receiving. All of this with Paul Thompson lighting up the sky. I think if Mr. Thompson can keep from making any mistakes OU might have a chance this year. Let's go Boomer Sooners!
-----------Keep it classy----- OSU SUX!

Clemson! Please Continue To Give Reggie Merriweather The Ball

Even though Reggie Merriweather is getting absolutely ZERO playing time for my team on my NCAA 2007 Football Season with Clemson, I want to encourage Tommy Bowden and Rob Spence today not to follow in my footsteps. This guy looked incredible last Saturday! I don't care if it was against one of the worst teams in the country. Somebody please give this man the ball!

This guy had 9 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown this past weekend against Florida Atlantic. Even though those are good numbers, even against a F- opponent, you would have had to see his performance in person to realize the hardwork and hard effort that he has put in over the last 9 months. I don't want to say that he looked like a completely different running back because he has shown us greatness over the last few years. What he did show to the fans and hopefully to Bowden and Rob Spence is that he deserves 10-15 carries a game.

I don't want Clemson fans to get me wrong, I'm a big James Davis fan and I'm still on his bandwagon. I just wanted to give props today to a hard-working 5th year senior who obviously busted his tail in the off-season to continue to get better.

Observations From This Past Weekend
1. Georgia Tech, even though they lost, they will be a tough challenge for any ACC team who faces them. It's just a shame that they have to play Notre Dame, Miami, Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Georgia this year.
2. I told contributor Joshua Richards 2 things - 1. South Carolina would not "kill" Miss. State and #2. that California will not make it to the national championship and that Tennessee will beat them. Not only was I right but geeze, California and South Carolina both looked horrible.
3. Clemson looked good, I hate it for LB Anthony Waters. Will Proctor looked good but I'm not 100% sold on him.

How Good Will Virginia Tech's Quarterback Be This Year?

Virginia Tech Starting Quarterback Sean Glennon

Now I know your all asking yourself how old is this kid, 16 or 17? So let's get his age, height, weight and everything cleared up right now. His name is Sean Glennon, he is 6'4, 221 pounds from the state of Virginia and he is a redshirt sophomore. I would like to think 99% of my readers have no idea who the starting qb is for the VT Hokies this year. I was wondering the other day myself who their qb is and how well will he do this year for the hokies.

This past Saturday, VT played the mighty titans of Northestern and as you can imagine, they came out on top 38-0. VT QB Sean Glennon had a very nice game throwing 15-18-1, for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns. Not too shabby for his first start. Coming out of high school, this guy was ranked the No. 10 pro-style quarterback in the nation by Rivals and his senior season he led his team to the Virginia AAA Group 6 state championship as a senior and passed for 1,840 yards with 26 touchdowns and only four interceptions. I could go on and on about some of his other accomplishments but I think you all get the picture.....this guy is good, real good. I think he will give the Hokies a lot of confidence in the pocket and will probably be one of the better qb's in the ACC.
