If it wasn't disgusting enough this past year watching Wake Forest win the ACC Football Championship, this article below seriously made me want to throw up all over my keyboard. I am crossing my fingers and hoping that Jim Grobe ends up like Right Said Fred, Soft Cell, and all of the other one-hit-wonders that never made it after their magical year.

Majority of people are familiar with "drinking games." One that comes to mind immediately is listening to the song "Roxanne," by the Police. Well, thanks to this website, http://truthaboutduke.com/ , there is a new drinking game that you can participate in!

Rules:
#1 - Head Dick
One (1) Head Dick must be selected for the group. The Head Dick should be knowledgeable of the Dick Vitale Universe, ie. Duke, Coach K, and all that is front-runner. The HD (or DH, if you prefer) shall be the final arbiter in all disputes and judgements, and shall be called simply Head Dick.
#2 - Coach K
A) Anytime Dick mentions Coach K or Mike Krzyzewski, the first person to yell "I coach for relationships!" gets a pass, but all others must drink (3) B) If Dick is calling a Duke game, and praises Coach K right after K has clearly dropped an F-bomb on a ref, the Head Dick must take a shot

When Duke comes to Littlejohn on Feb. 22, think about how awesome it would be if the whole student section had clocks. Everyone knows we got hosed at their place. Why not remind the Dukies of their illegitimate win by holding up clocks while they do their warmups? Duke's shooting a freethrow? Hold up your clocks. The above picture of the myspace page belongs to retired Clemson football player Carol Gaddis. Somehow I came across this and unfortunately gave in to the supernatural myspace powers and click on his profile. As you can see in the top right hand corner the title of his page says "Dear Mr. Toilet, I'm Da $hit!" If you scroll down below on his page, a 20 second video will play from the BC @ Clemson game 2 seasons ago when Carol Gaddis picked off a pass. That may have been his only interception in that entire year, I dunno! Last week Sports Talk Rocks wished Carol Gaddis the best of luck. Even though we came across his disturbing myspace page today, we will still be on his side and hope the best for him, but someone needs to tell him that he def. ain't "da $hit!"

Panthers Fire Offensive Coordinator Henning - Fox: 'This is a very difficult decision'

About a month ago when I came across this website, I totally agreed and felt compelled to spread the word about Dan Henning. I didn't say to throw Dan Henning under the bus but I did agree with the website and felt like a change needed to be made. As the weeks went on, and the more I thought about it, I began to disagree with myself. I felt like Dan deserved one more year, after all .... he only led the panthers to a super bowl and NFC championship game in a span of 3 years and almost took a TERRIBLE/INJURED offense the other year to the playoffs as well. But looking back at the end of November as seeing stats like the ones below, it's safe to say that I'm not going to lose any sleep over this. We wish you the best Dan!

Ranking the SEC Coaches

Recently Reece and I got into a discussion about college coaches and we soon realized how loaded the SEC is with quality coaches. Every coach in the league with the exception of the above pictured gentlemen have a pretty good track record when it comes to coaching em' up, either at their current school or somewhere in the recent past. Now to be fair, both Ed Orgeron and Sylvester Croom stepped into tough situations at their respective universities. And if you believe what you read, Orgeron is a great recruiter so maybe Ole Miss will rise up in the near future. Croom's teams have improved (at least in regard to point differential) every season so maybe the Bulldog faithful have hope too. However, since those two have the least impressive credentials, I'm leaving them out of the discussion. Below the other ten coaches in the SEC are listed alphabetically along with their resumes.

Rich Brooks

22 seasons

Record: 106-141-4 .430

Brooks’ winning percentage is not that good, but he has taken Oregon and Kentucky (two programs that were not exactly elite when he got there) to 5 combined bowl games, going 2-3. He also won a conference title at Oregon in 1994, the schools first conference title in 37 years.

Phillip Fulmer

14.5 seasons

Record: 137-41 .770

Fulmer has had only one losing season in his 14+ seasons in Knoxville. He has won a national title (1998) as well as two conference titles and 4 SEC Eastern Division titles. He has taken the Vols to 14 bowl games going 7-7.

Bobby Johnson

13 seasons

Record: 73-77 .487

Johnson has made the Vanderbilt program competitive. His teams were a combined 6-29 his first three seasons, but have made strides the past two seasons going 5-6 (narrowly missing out on a bowl) and 4-8. Two seasons ago they beat Tennessee for the first time since Reconstruction and this past year they upset Georgia in Athens. Johnson was 58-34 (.630) in 8 seasons at Furman. He won one conference title, made 4 playoff appearances, and participated in the national championship game in his final season (2001).

Urban Meyer

6 seasons

Record: 61-12 .836

Meyer just won the national championship at Florida in only his second year. His teams have never lost more than 3 games in any one season. He has taken his teams to 4 bowl games, never losing a single one. He has 3 conference titles and the first ever BCS bowl appearance by a program outside the BCS leagues.

Les Miles

6 seasons

Record: 50-25 .667

Miles spent 4 years at Oklahoma State rebuilding that program and just finished his second season at LSU maintaining that program’s status as one of college football’s elite. His only losing season was his first in Stillwater. His teams have gone to 5 bowl games, winning 3, and he has an SEC Western Division title.

Houston Nutt

14 seasons

Record: 102-67 .604

Nutt has taken the Razorbacks to 7 bowl games in 9 years, winning two of them, and also taking two SEC Western Division titles. Prior to coming to Fayetteville, he spent 4 seasons at Murray State amassing two playoff appearances. He also spent one year (1997) at Boise State, coaxing the Broncos to a 4-7 record in only their second year of play in Division IA.

Mark Richt

6 seasons

Record: 61-17 .782

Richt has never had a losing season at Georgia nor has he lost more than 4 games in any one season. The Dawgs have gone to 6 bowl games (4-2 record), and have 3 SEC Eastern Division tiles to go along with 2 wins in the SEC Championship Game.

Nick Saban

11 seasons

Record: 91-42-1 .683

Little Nicky has never had a losing season and has coached his teams 9 bowl games where they have posted a 4-5 record. He has 2 SEC Western Division titles and 2 wins in the SEC Championship game. He also won a MAC Championship in his only year at Toledo. Oh and he won it all in 2003.

Steve Spurrier

17 seasons

Record: 157-50 .756

Spurrier has had but one losing season in his career (his first year at Duke). He also won a conference championship at Duke to go along with the 6 he won at Florida. His teams have gone to 14 bowl games winning 8. He also won Florida’s first (and until this season only national title) in 1996.

Tommy Tuberville

12 seasons

Record: 96-49 .662

Tuberville has had just two losing seasons in his 12 years roaming the sidelines at Ole Miss and Auburn. His teams have participated in 8 bowl games, winning 5. He has 2 SEC Western Division titles and one win in the SEC Championship Game. He also had an undefeated season in 2004, but did not get to participate in the BCS title game (Orange Bowl) because there were 3 undefeateds that season. He’s 6-2 against archrival Alabama (including 5 straight wins). And his record since 2000 is 66-23 (.742).

Now, I'm leaving it up to you. Who is the SEC's best coach? Use any definition of coaching you want (getting the best out of what you have, best X's and O's guy, best winning percentage, most wins, best Under Armor commercials, etc.) and let me know how you would rank these 10 gentlemen.

If Duke Loses This Sunday At Miami, Then ......

I know you're thinking there's no possible way that the Duke Blue Devils will be left out of the 2007 NCAA Tournament, but it is most certainly possible. We knew they were in trouble after looking at their cumulative season stats and seeing that out of their 8 players who play the most, 4 are white boys! Some would disagree with me and say that 5 out of 8 play like white boys with the addition of David McClure, but that's neither here or there.

Think about it, if you go ahead and factor in 2 losses to Clemson this year, then Duke is sitting very uncomfortably at 0-4 in the ACC already losing at home to VT and on the road at GT. Man, this coming Sunday's afternoon game at 5:30 in Miami has to have Coach K and the Duke fans extremely nervous! And the the 0-4 record if Clemson takes care of business this year at Cameron Indoor and at Littlejohn Coliseum, doesn't include 2 probable losses to UNC!

Now I know you're saying that Coach K is the man and he'll get Duke to playing like an allworld team very soon but let's be honest, his players aren't that good and if my alma mater (Clemson) loses to these guys, I'm going to be super pissed off. Down below is Duke's remaing ACC schedule. They're 0-2 right now and I feel like Duke HAS to win 3 out of their next 4. It's a tough road night in and night out in the ACC and if Duke loses to Miami this Sunday, then they probably won't finish any better than 7-9 in the ACC which means ....... they go to the NIT!

C.J. Gaddis To Enter NFL Draft - Link

For a couple of years now, Clemson fans have watched Carol Gaddis come in as a highly talented QB and primetime baseball player, transform into a below average cornerback and average safety. Just like all players, Carol has had high moments and low moments. I'm not 100% sure how the rest of Tiger Nation feels in regards to Carol entering the NFL draft a year early, but I will say I'm extremely happy. I wish him the best and all, and who knows, he may get drafted in the 4th or 5th round but ...... I honestly don't see how he will other than because of "potential." Even I don't see Mel Kiper Jr. making out with Carol Gaddis like MKjr does with all draft prospects.

I had a class with Carol a few years ago when I was still a student at Clemson and he was always a super nice guy so don't take this blog as an insult to him. Think of it more as constructive criticism. As I stated in the title, it won't be hard replacing him but ..... Tiger Nation wishes him the best!

If you're too lazy to read the link to the article above, basically what it's saying is this: Dave Odom has a new deal to coach the USC men’s basketball team, thanks to the promise of incoming players and a boss who understands that this season is a “transitional year.” Odom and the school have agreed to a two-year contract extension that will go through the 2009-10 season. The contract was approved by the executive committee of the USC board of trustees Monday.

Being the Clemson graduate that I am, I normally would make fun and blast this idea, but this time I actually agree with AD Eric Hyman. This is a transitional year with the loss of Balkman and some other mishappenings. I mean really, who are you going to get thats better than Dave Odom? I don't care what Clemson fans or South Carolina fans say about him, he's good. Sports Talk Rocks approves the 2-year contract extension between Dave Odom and the University of South Carolina.

How Many Suicide Sprints Did Georgia Tech Coach Paul Hewitt Make This Kid Run Yesterday?

If you tuned in and watched the 2nd best team in the ACC play their conference home opener against Georgia Tech, then you were def. in for a treat. The Clemson Tigers have now extended their record to 16-0 this year with wins over Minnesota, South Carolina, Miss. State, Georgia, Florida State, and Georgia Tech.

The kid in the picture above is Javaris Crittenton , freshman point guard for Georgia Tech. If you look closely at the final play below with James Mayes taking it straight to the hole, Javaris Crittenton was set up perfectly on the right block to take a charge. In fact, his body and feet were set on the block for so long, I feel like if he would have hung in there and taken a charge, the lead official below the basket would have been forced to call the charge!
If you talk to unrealistic Clemson fan Jeff Parks, he'll tell you that Mayes just did a great job adjusting his angle to the basket and sneaked by Crittenton. If you talk to me, I believe that Crittenton was set correctly and then at the last second moved out of the way! Either he didn't want a 6'9 225 freight train colliding into him or either he was scared to get called for the block! Another question I have for today's readers, if Crittenton would have hung in there and taken the contact, would he have achieved the charge call against Mayes?

I Don't Think This Kid Will Disappoint

He probably won't start his first year at Clemson, but I do feel extremely confident that this kid will have a very good career. Keep in mind, unlike most crazy a$$ Clemson Fans, I am a very realistic one. We have to be honest though ..... all of the Carolina fans who say "Willy Korn won't be your Savior." They're saying that because they know there is a great possibility that he very well might be!

Now if you read this article in Spartanburg's very own Herald-Journal newspaper, "Good Game By Korn Would Ease Concerns," my friend Eric Boynton's writing makes you think that there is a deep concern by Clemson fans that this kid isn't good enough! I know Eric, and I know how business works, and you try and sell papers. This story in today's newspaper might create controversy and make people think, but trust me .... I don't have any doubt that this kid is the real deal, and I don't think there are any other Clemson fans who doubt it as well.

We started chatting about football and etc., and we started talking about the Atlanta Falcons job because we knew the very next day Jim Mora Jr. would be fired. Now this "guy" I was talking to went on to say that one of his friends with the Atlanta Falcons organization has confirmed that Bill Cowher will be the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. He went on to say that his source also told him that Cowher had already bought a house and some land and that he's already a lock! To make a long bio short, he's basically been in the NFL for 8 seasons: currently GB Packers offensive coordinator, Atlanta Falcons o-line and tight ends coach. I wish this guy the best, but just because he has the letters "god" in his last name, that doesn't mean he will go 12-0 and win a national championship (probably will never even win an ACC championship). This guy may do well, and I wish him the best but, if BC fans weren't happy with TOB, they probably won't be happy with Jeff Jagodzinski either!

Why isn't this mans name not thrown around when it comes to vacant coaching jobs? So what if he cheated? So what if you're a Bowden hater? This guy is a winner and Alabama would be crazy if they don't give him a call! Alabama is looking for somebody to bring them to the top and whip their arch rival. Why not go after the man who use to whip you when he was at Auburn? In the Birmingham News article, Bowden admits “the way it ended (at Auburn) took something out of me” and that, when it appeared that West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez appeared ready to accept the job at Alabama, Bowden “started thinking about making a few calls, to see about getting in the mix (to replace Rodriguez).” Dangit Terry, don't settle for West Virginia, just go to Alabama! Don't be Skared!

Now I know that he promised his wife not to coach anymore and yadi yadi yada, but ... after hearing his statement this past week saying that he would be FSU's Offensive Coordinator for free, you gotta think if he could get a high profile head coaching job, he would def. take it! Best Bowl Bets

With bowl season just around the corner here are some lines to jump on if you need to recoup some Christmas cash.

BYU -4 Oregon
Don't worry about the fact that this contest matches up Mountain West vs Pac 10. The reason this line isn't higher is because people look at this matchup and say the following:
1) Oregon went 10-2 last year.
2)BYU still has a team?
3) Oregon beat Oklahoma.
Tackling each in order.
1) Yes they did, but Arkansas and Wake Forest both went 4-7 last year. Things change.
2) Yes they do.
3) If that game was officiated correctly, Oregon would be 6-6 and possibly staying home for the holidays.
BYU's only losses were at Arizona (by 3) and at BC (by 7 in OT). That Arizona loss was the season opener and BC, well they are pretty good. Since that game, BYU has been challeneged once, by arch-rival Utah. They've won 9 in a row. Oregon has lost three straight including a 27 point home loss to Arizona and are only 2-4 away from home this year.

South Florida -3.5 East Carolina
The Golden Bulls are one of the most well coached in college football (Jim Leavitt is the man). They have won 3 of their last 4 including an impressive road win at West Virginia to conclude the regular season. The Bulls play in a better conference, have a better record, a better defense, and a better point differential. All signs point to a South Florida cover.

Rutgers -7.5 Kansas State
The only reason to fear the Scaret Knights would not cover here is motivation. After dropping a heartbreaker to West Virginia, the Knights get bumped from the Orange Bowl to the Texas Bowl. A bowl game being televised on the NFL Network. So it will be seen by fewer people than an episode of Daybreak. Still Rutgers has one of the best defenses in the nation and should be able to shut down the Wildcats offensive attack.

Virginia Tech -2.5 Georgia
Statistically, the Hokies have the best defense in the nation and have given up exactly two touchdowns in their last 6 games. And they're favored by less than a fiedl goal over a team that lost to Vandy and Kentucky? Yes Georgia spanked Auburn (in Auburn) and hung on against Georgia tech, but Auburn was not as strong as their 10-2 record would indicate (their offense broke 30 once in conference play) and Georgia Tech, well Reggie Ball is their quarterback.

Ohio State -8 Florida
This reminds me a lot of 2001 when Miami was head and shoulders above every other team. Ohio State's defense is very good. Put Chris Leak down for at least 2 throws off his back foot that result in interceptions. And Ohio State's quarterback is pretty good too. The Florida defense (as it has done all season) and some tricky eyer play calls will keep the Gators in it for the first 30 minutes, but tOSU will roll in the second half.

After a few jobs as head coach, Atlanta (1983-86) and San Diego (1989-91), and of course being NFL assistant, Dan Henning joined the Carolina Panthers in 2002. The conservative play calling over the last 3 years has worked in his favor, and understably so with their incredible defense and special teams. However, I think the Carolina Panther fans have seen too many "run it up the gut" plays on 3rd and 3, and be forced to punt. I don't dislike this guy as much as some people, but I will agree with the website above. It's time for John Fox to replace Dan Henning with someone else at the Offensive Coordinator position at Carolina. Here are some statistics that don't lie:

- Worst 1/3 in 3rd Down Conversions ... 2006 Season
- 27th out of 32 in Scoring Offense .... WITH THE MOST EXPLOSIVE PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE

For the 5th time in its 9 seasons of existence, the BCS championship game will not be devoid of controversy. the only logical way to solve this problem is with a playoff system. Here's my playoff suggestion.

1) Start the season a week early. The week before Labor Day becomes the official kickoff to the college football season.
2) Teams play only 10 games. 8 conference games and 2 non-conference games.
3) With one bye week for each team, the regular season wraps up on the second weekend in November.
4) Conference title games will be played the thrid weekend in November.
5) Everyone gets Thanksgiving weekend off.
6) The playoffs start the first weekend in December.
7) 32 teams make the postseason. 11 conference champions receive automatic bids (even the Sun Belt champ has a shot at the national title) and 21 teams receive at large selections. To be an at-large selection, teams must have a winning record in conference play (5-3 or better).
8) The first, second, and third weekends in December are playoff weekends. Games are played on Friday and Saturday of the first weekend (8 per day) and second weekend (4 per day). Games are played only on Saturday on the third weekend (4 in all).
9) The final 4 get a two week break until January 1st (whatever day of the week this falls). Both semi-finals are played this day.
10) On January 8th, the final two teams square off.
11) You can even have an NIT of sorts with 16, 24, or 32 other teams that have at least 5 wins, but do not qualify for the big tourney.

There will be 31 playoff games played total. Currently, there are 32 bowl games (31 without the BCS title game). Each bowl game hosts one of the plyoff games, with the Rose Bowl always hosting the championship game. The big bowl games (Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Sugar, Gator, and Capital One) alternate to host the four regional finals and the national semifinals. I know this is a pipe dream, but imagine the excitement on the first Friday in December when the tournament starts. College basketball has March Madness and college football would have A December to Remember.

For those of you who are still trying to figure out who the team is located on the righthand side of the picture, it's Universtiy of Houston! If Oklahoma vs. Boise State wasn't an extremely unfair matchup, this one I would say is the most unfairly matched bowl game of the year!

Houston is sitting nicely at 10-3 with wins over powerhouse universities such as: Rice 31-30, Tulsa 27-10, SMU 37-27, and Memphis 23-20 (OT). Back on October 7, University of Houston lost a heartbreaker at home to powerhouse juggernaut Louisiana-Lafayette, 31-28. I will give credit where credit is due, they had 2 decent wins this year. Oklahoma State 34-25, and Southern Miss 34-20. Both of those games were played at home of course. Basically what I'm saying is this, I don't know what the line is on this game, but I'm going to go ahead and say ...... "Bet the house on the South Carolina Gamecocks to Cover!"

His defenses have carried the team for the past 5 seasons thanks to an extremely inconsistent quarterback. He's Jon Tenuta of Georgia Tech. Maybe some school with a head coaching vacancy is quietly pursuing him, but I for one am shocked not to have heard his name in any coaching rumors. He probably won't end up there, but a I think perfect fit would be Arizona State, which historically has a good offense and lackluster defense.

1. CSTV reported Sunday Morning that Steve Spurrier was likely headed to Miami at season's end.
2. ESPN's Joe Schad reported Sunday Morning Miami's top choice for coach is Steve Spurrier.
3. Steve Spurrier denied he has had any contact with Miami during his weekly teleconference with reporters and stated he would like to stay at South Carolina and win the SEC. However, he stated that it was flattering to be mentioned in connection with a program of Miami's elite stature.
4. CSTV responded by reinterating the initial report and quoting additional sources that state Spurrier would like out at South Carolina and would welcome the opportunity to coach Miami.
5. Larry Coker stated " I think he'd (Spurrier) be a good candidate if this job was open. I know Steve. If this job were open I think he'd be a heck of a nice candidate."

1. Miami and South Carolina are already discussing a buyout package.
2. Steve Spurrier has already been contacting potential staff at Miami.
3. South Carolina will be charged with major violations by the NCAA and thus Spurrier will want to bail.
4. Paul Dee has had this trial balloon floated in order to put pressure on Rutgers Head Coach and Former UM 5. Defensive Coordinator Greg Schiano to make a decision about whether or not to accept a forthcoming offer from Miami.
6. Spurrier will recieve an extension at South Carolina that makes him the 2nd highest paid coach in College Football.
7. Steve Spurrier is going to leave South Carolina regardless, having determined much like the Redskins situation he cannot win there.
8. Larry Coker will be retained by Miami if he beats BC Thanksgiving Night and fired after next season unless Miami wins the ACC. That will allow Miami to save on a potential buyout and would make Spurrier and Schiano "more available."

Miami is out of the rankings for the first time since 1999. The Miami Hurricanes had 107 consecutive top 25 poll appearances that was the nation's longest current streak. I think it's safe to say with the very average seasons Larry Coker has had with Miami for the past few years and with the 1-2 start this season, he will be forced to quit fairly soon. My friend Jeff Parks made an interesting statement to me today. He said with Spurrier not having the talent to have a great offense at Carolina, just like leaving the Washington Redskins in the NFL because he couldn't accomplish what we wanted, is there any chance he would try and leave South Carolina to pursue a school like a Miami like he left Washington? Meaning, a Miami would put him in a position with already great talent and he wouldn't have to still wait another 3 more years to attempt to get good enough players in at Carolina to accomplish his expectations.

I don't think we can rule this out at all (even though Spurrier hasn't received his lifetime membership to Augusta National). I think this job will definitely come open in a few months from now, will Spurrier show interest or no? What are your thoughts? Link to Blog

Steve Spurrier Could be the Next Miami Hurricanes Coach

Not a lot of detail here, other than that sources tell CSTV that Steve Spurrier might leave South Carolina after only 2 years to become the next head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.Spurrier's Gamecocks are 6-5 this year and 13-10 in his 2 years thus far. In his time at Florida, Spurrier compiled a remarkable 122-27-1 record in 12 years. So if indeed The Ole Ball Coach does return to Florida, what is your reaction? I'm not in favor of anyone leaving 2 years into a 7-year contract, but if the rumors are true, it'll be very interesting to see him try to turn around Miami. I always got the feeling that while he could have success at South Carolina, he would be inhibited a bit just because the Gamecocks don't have as much of a football reputation, and Spurrier may not have any of his old pipelines. He'll have no such problems if he goes to Miami.It's going to be real interesting to see how this plays out.

My generation grew up watching David Copperfield demonstrate unbelievable magic tricks that your brain had no possible way in figuring out. If Wake Forest Doesn't Lose All Of Their Remaining 4 Games Then .....

Without a doubt does this guy in the picture above deserve ACC coach of the year! As of right now his all-time win/loss record at Wake is 33-33. Their final four games on their regular season schedule are as follows: Boston College, @ Florida State, Virginia Tech, and @ Maryland. I think they'll win at least one of those four but the real question is this: if Wake Forest loses all 4 of those and end the regular season with a 7-5 record, does Jim Grobe deserve ACC coach of the year?

I can tell you several coaches who do not deserve ACC Coach of the year already: John Bunting, Larry Coker, Chuck Amato, Ralph Friedgen, Bobby Bowden, Al Groh, Ted Roof. So that leaves 5 other possible names, GT -Chan Gailey (6-2), Clemson - Tommy Bowden (7-2), Wake Forest - Jim Grobe (7-1), VT - Frank Beemer (6-2), BC - Tom O' Brien (7-1). Alot really depends on this weekend. If Wake Forest defeats Boston College then I think Tom O'Brien can kiss "acc coach of the year" award goodbye. If Frank Beemer at VT loses another ACC game this weekend against Miami, he can def. forget about it as well. I think it's going to come down to Chan Gailey, Tommy Bowden, and Jim Grobe. I think just as long as Grobe wins at least 1 more game, he deserves coach of the year, even if Gailey and Bowden win out. If in fact he loses these remaining four games, then the award should indeed go to either Gailey, Bowden, or O'Brien depending on how they do.

#3 West Virginia @ #5 Louisville

It's not that I don't have respect for these 2 teams. Ever since watching West Virginia last year absolutely wax Georgia in their bowl game, I've been a big fan. I will admit that I'm glad that hopefully one of these two teams will finally drop out of the Top 10 after this week though. Honestly, the Big East doesn't deserve that kind of respect. And for all of you Rutgers lovers out there, they don't deserve to be in the Top 10 either. Heaven forbid if the Big East had 3 teams ranked in the Top 10. I think that would be the day I would officially stop watching college football.

Thing is, between WV and Louisville, they very well both should be Top 10 teams. The teams they are both ahead of right now are: Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, USC, Notre Dame, California, and Arkansas. I'm not too sure out of all of those teams that are "definitely" better than Louisville and/or West Virginia. I will say this, conferences such as the Big East who only have 3 or 4 competetive games a year, then go undefeated, this is one more reason why there needs to be a 6 team playoff system in college football. You know your going to have 1 team go undefeated, and you know you will have 3 or 4 other really good teams with one loss, and you know you'll have 1 team from a weaker conference like the big east go undefeated as well. If West Virginia wins this game, they may very well play for the National Championship .......... Go Rich Rodriguez!

Why Spurrier vs. Fulmer Deserves Gameday!

For all the Clemson fans out there who are super pissed off that Gameday is coming to Columbia, SC this coming weekend, hold on one minute. Let's be honest with each other for a second, and ESPN is being honest as well by looking at their TV ad's for this South Carolina/ Tennessee Gameday game ..... it's Spurrier vs. Fulmer, not South Carolina vs. Tennessee. I'm not quite sure if they are expecting these 2 head coaches to strap down in tights and go at it on the 50 yard line in a jello ring, but if they are expecting that and don't get it, ESPN need not to worry, this will be a close and exciting ballgame to watch this Saturday night!

After looking at the other possibilities for ESPN to choose to be their "Gameday" game, the only other one I saw was Florida vs. Georgia, which could get really out of hand rather quickly. Regardless what you think, I think, or what Clemson fans think, Spurrier vs. Fulmer is an attractable draw and it's taking place in a week in College Football where there just aren't any decent games going on other than this. Right now the spread is Tennessee favored by 5.

For those of you who had to sleep through that terrible Oakland Raiders vs. Denver Broncos game Sunday night and never even bothered to give the Boise State vs. New Mexico State game a chance due to unfamiliarity with them and also probably due to the ugly uniforms by both teams, you missed an exciting game! Let me tell a little info on the New Mexico St. team and their qb.

He's a fantasy players dream! Last night he threw for 526 passing yards and went 49-65! This guy is averaging 53 passing attempts a game, 18 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, QB rating of 151.70, and 76.65 completion percentage! Now don't get me wrong, I'll be the first one to say I could care less about watching an Arizona State vs. Nevada St. type of game. Normally I would never give a game like that a chance, but I would really like to encourage ESPN to have New Mexico St. on more often. Go Aggies!

Random Thought Of The Day: I'm watching the Chicago Bears vs. Arizona Cardinals game right now and I have a question. Why in the world is Charles Barkeley in the announcing booth as a guest? By the way, it's 9:47, he has been on for at least 10 minutes, that's 10 minutes too much! By the way, Sir Charles is talking about how much weight he has lost!

Don't let the South Carolina Gamecocks hat fool you, everyone's favorite ACC official Ron Cherry, had a blistering hot game this past Saturday where the North Carolina Tarheels went down to that dump of a stadium they call the "Orange Bowl," in Miami. This was probably the easiest game in the country for an ACC official to work and let me tell you why: 1. The Game was played at noon (noone was watching) 2. Fan Attendance - 29,621 (again, noone was watching) 3. Both Coaches will be fired at the end of the season (doesn't have to choose favorites)

Seriously, both Larry Coker and John Bunting (UNC) will be fired or forced to resign at the end of the year. All the ACC officials assume this as well which makes it that much tougher on the coaches. Think about it, if your a referee and you know a coach is gone at the end of the season, you would have no reason to choose favorites with him over the other guy, and yes..... officials do choose favorites!

If you check out www.southernpigskin.com , you will see their released bowl projections for this week. Two things stick out concerning their South Carolina vs. BC matchup. Typically this bowl hosts 6 or 7 win teams about every year so my question to Southern Pigskin is this - I understand where they see South Carolina getting 6 or 7 wins, but do they honestly think BC will end up with less than 8 wins? Just for those of you who do not know, Boston College is sitting at 4-1 with 7 games left to play, their opponents are: Virginia Tech, Florida State, Buffalo, Duke, Maryland, Wake Forest, and Miami. We are talking about losing 4 out of those last 7 to end up with only a 7 win season. I just don't know if I see that or not.

Now the Clemson vs. Florida game on the other hand ........ I would like to have your input on!

Why These Polls Do Not Matter

Let's take a closer look into these 2 polls focusing on Boston College. In last week's USA Today Coaches poll, Boston College was ranked #25 in the country. This past weekend, Boston College defeated Maine, 22-0. Georgia Tech defeated Virginia Tech boosting them from not being ranked in the USA TODAY Poll to a #20 ranking, USA Today snuck Missouri in with their very miniscule win against a terrible Colorado team, and then USA TODAY pulled the hat trick and bumped BC from their Coaches Poll. How in the world you beat a team 22-0 and drop out of the rankings is beyond my belief, and to replace them with a Missouri team who beat Colorado, let me repeat, Colorado, is absolutely absurd. If you take a look into the AP Poll, last week, Boston College was not even in the Top 25, and now this week after their 22-0 route over Maine, they are locked in at #25.

I think it's gotten to a point where most people really don't pay any attention to these College Football Polls anymore. There are so many polls out now that we've basically just gotten to where none of them matter anymore. If they really do matter to you, then in the next few sentences, I'm going to prove to you why they shouldn't.

This week, Boston College will have their "bye" week, Missouri will lose to Texas Tech, and miraculously, Boston College next week will be placed back in the Top 25! So what we will see is this:
September 24th: Boston College loses to NC State and drops to #25
October 1st: Boston College defeats Maine 22-0 and drops out of the Top 25
October 8th: Boston College has a bye week and makes it back in the Top 25

ESPN Gameday in Columbia, SC 2 Years ago

Even though I'm really not a fan of 2 of the 3 guys above, and could honeslty care less about "ESPN Gameday," I will admit that it would still be very cool if the Georgia Tech @ Clemson game on October 21st ends up being in Death Valley. Not trying to jump the gun but I don't see Georgia Tech losing before this date and I don't see Clemson losing again before this date either. Right now the Clemson Tigers are ranked #15th in the Country and the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets are ranked #20, both teams sitting at 4-1.

Clemson meets Wake Forest and Temple, so by the time October 21st rolls around they will be 6-1, and Georgia Tech plays Maryland and a bye week so they should be sitting aroudn 5-1. I would like to think both teams will probably be ranked around 17 or lower therefore placing them in the hunt to achieve ESPN Gameday status. However, there will be a few other games on that day that could possibly be ahead of GT @ Clemson so it may not happen, and of course, Clemson and GT both need to do their part and not blow it against Maryland and not blow it in Winstom Salem.

Talk about there ever being a game where I equally dislike each team the same amount, this would be that game. If I could have the option to choose for both teams to lose, I definitely would. I guess I have more hard feelings towards Georgia Tech this weekend because of the strange outcomes they have had against my Clemson Tigers but I do know one thing, I'm already tired of the Calvin Johnson articles.

The GT Yellowjackets are a 9 point underdog at VT, but I got to think that they will cover that. I don't see them getting blown out like they did last year up there in Blacksburg. Even though they didn't absolutely smoke Virginia last week, and looked a little sore against Troy, they still ended up winning those games pretty handily. Now, I know what you're about to say, "Rutgers hasn't played anybody good." That's true, but they have absolutely stomped over all of their opponents averaging 34 points per game and only giving up 7 points per game. For the first time since 1976, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are ranked! Thing about this is, there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. They are ranked 23rd in the AP, USA Today, and VI polls. (VI = Vegas Insider)

The fact of the matter is this though. The Rutgers football team are finally ranked after 30 years of misery, but there is one problem. After this Saturday when they lose to South Florida, they'll probably have to wait another 30 years! The game is at South Florida and Rutgers are a 4 point favorite, but you have to think that their luck will run out if not this week then extremely soon. In addition, with their passing game struggling over the weeks, and losing another receiver to an injury, I just can't picture this team going to South Florida and winning. So for all you gamblers out there, bank on South Florida not only covering, but winning this week.

I hate spreads this high involving good teams. Southern Cal dominated Arkansas but were slow starting. Nebraska has a better defense than the Hogs, so they will keep this game relatively close in the Coliseum.

Georgia Quarterback Joe Tereshinski

Blow the whistle ref! Tell this kid to go take a seat on the bench for the rest of the season, he's done! After injuring his ankle into 41 different pieces against the South Carolina Gamecocks this past Saturday night in Columbia, and watching Matthew Stafford come into the game and lead his bulldogs to a 15-0 shutout of the gamecocks, I think it's safe to say Joe Tereshinski's career is done.

Doctors expect him to miss four to six weeks with an injured ankle, and Tereshinski said he'll be back sooner than later. "It doesn't matter how much pain it is on the fourth week. I am out there," the senior told reporters, according to the Atlanta Journal Consitution. Yea dude, you'll be out there, on the bench! Stafford will be the starter for the rest of the year for the Georgia Bulldogs! The state of Alabama has a strong combination of teams every year who give their state a chance to win a National Championship. Such powerhouse programs include: Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, & the Troy Trojans! Troy University is a school that offers students a future of possibilities that make it super easy to recruit student athletes. This past week we saw the Troy Magnum Trojans go to Florida State and take the Seminoles right down to the wire!

In reality, last Monday night Florida State played on National TV against the Miami Hurricanes. What probably happened was this: Bowden gave his players Tuesday off, Wednesday they watched the Clemson film, Thursday they did a walk-through, Friday they had the day off, then played Troy Trojans on Saturday. What I'm saying is this, Clemson def. has a shot against these guys but don't think that FSU is just gosh awful. They were looking way past this game against the Troy Trojans, they had some unlucky bounces go there way (Fumble 7 times, 3 of them Troy recovered). If you look at the stats, they won that, just like Clemson def. won the stat battle against BC, but games aren't played on stats are they?

Even though Florida State right now has a total of 46 rushing yards in 2 games, I'm sure they'll snap out of that slump against Clemson with an all-out track meet (hopefully they won't). With a few injuries on the Clemson defense, all of which are key players, it's going to be tough to stop them. Just because Troy held them down for a good while doesn't mean anything, this will be a great game to watch and won't be a cake walk for either team.

The line started off at 3.5 I think in Georgia's favor, as you see it's dropped down to -1.5. Other than the qb position, you won't see near as many holes in their team as we saw in South Carolina's team last week.

2. (-2.5) Clemson @ Boston College - Take Clemson to Cover - Boston College had a very weak performance last week against Central Michigan. They lost a ton of starters from last years team and Will Proctor for Clemson as we saw is going to do just fine at qb.

3. (-13) Virginia Tech @ North Carolina - Take Virginia Tech to Cover - No specific reason for this one other that VT looked great last week. They are still a powerhouse and will take care of UNC.

4. Ohio State @ (-2.5) Texas - Take Texas to Cover - Texas....at home....good showing from their qb last week......it's still a toss up, so I'm going to take Texas.

5. Penn State @ (-7.5) Notre Dame- Take Notre Dame to Cover - That's right everybody, I have taken all of the favorites this week of these 5 games to cover their spreads.

I know it was only UAB but the guy had 24 carries for 139 yds rushing and 1 catch for 69 yds and 2 TD's. One from pounding the ball and one from receiving. Clemson! Please Continue To Give Reggie Merriweather The Ball

Even though Reggie Merriweather is getting absolutely ZERO playing time for my team on my NCAA 2007 Football Season with Clemson, I want to encourage Tommy Bowden and Rob Spence today not to follow in my footsteps. This guy looked incredible last Saturday! I don't care if it was against one of the worst teams in the country. Somebody please give this man the ball!

This guy had 9 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown this past weekend against Florida Atlantic. Even though those are good numbers, even against a F- opponent, you would have had to see his performance in person to realize the hardwork and hard effort that he has put in over the last 9 months. I don't want to say that he looked like a completely different running back because he has shown us greatness over the last few years. What he did show to the fans and hopefully to Bowden and Rob Spence is that he deserves 10-15 carries a game.

I don't want Clemson fans to get me wrong, I'm a big James Davis fan and I'm still on his bandwagon. I just wanted to give props today to a hard-working 5th year senior who obviously busted his tail in the off-season to continue to get better.

Observations From This Past Weekend
1. Georgia Tech, even though they lost, they will be a tough challenge for any ACC team who faces them. It's just a shame that they have to play Notre Dame, Miami, Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Georgia this year.
2. I told contributor Joshua Richards 2 things - 1. South Carolina would not "kill" Miss. State and #2. that California will not make it to the national championship and that Tennessee will beat them. Not only was I right but geeze, California and South Carolina both looked horrible.
3. Clemson looked good, I hate it for LB Anthony Waters. Will Proctor looked good but I'm not 100% sold on him.

Virginia Tech Starting Quarterback Sean Glennon

Now I know your all asking yourself how old is this kid, 16 or 17? So let's get his age, height, weight and everything cleared up right now. His name is Sean Glennon, he is 6'4, 221 pounds from the state of Virginia and he is a redshirt sophomore. I would like to think 99% of my readers have no idea who the starting qb is for the VT Hokies this year. I was wondering the other day myself who their qb is and how well will he do this year for the hokies.

This past Saturday, VT played the mighty titans of Northestern and as you can imagine, they came out on top 38-0. VT QB Sean Glennon had a very nice game throwing 15-18-1, for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns. Not too shabby for his first start. Coming out of high school, this guy was ranked the No. 10 pro-style quarterback in the nation by Rivals and his senior season he led his team to the Virginia AAA Group 6 state championship as a senior and passed for 1,840 yards with 26 touchdowns and only four interceptions. I could go on and on about some of his other accomplishments but I think you all get the picture.....this guy is good, real good. I think he will give the Hokies a lot of confidence in the pocket and will probably be one of the better qb's in the ACC.

Keep in mind, I don't claim to be a professional gambler or expert, but I do love watching spreads go up and down and try to figure out what the men in Vegas are thinking and how they are coming to their conclusions. Matt and I will go through each week and just give you my input on a few games with ACC/SEC related teams participating on the spread and who to take.

Reese's Picks 1. (-7.5) Notre Dame @ GA Tech - Take Notre Dame to cover this 8 point spread - Reality is reality, Reggie Ball is a below average QB, Bobby Dodd Stadium is about as intimidating as a high school stadium, and whereas last year's Notre Dame team thought it could be good, this year's version knows it can and should be great. 30 years ago the jackets beat Notre Dame 23-14, and the jackets accomplished that by never throwing 1 single pass, true story. Well I think it's safe to say Notre Dame will get their payback this coming Saturday.

2. (-6.5) South Carolina @ Miss. State - Take Miss. State to cover this 6.5 point spread - Interesting that the line opened up at 8, now it's dropped to 6.5. I think the cocks will come out a little hungover from their Independence Bowl loss to Missouri. Home field advantage will play a big part and Miss. State will surprise some people this year.

3. California @ Tennessee (-2.5) - Take Tennesse to cover this 2.5 point spread - California bears are pre-season ranked #9, they just took a major hit with the loss of starting cornerback Tim Mixon who blew his ACL, I don't see them winning in knoxville, I take Tenn to cover the 2.5 spread.

4. Syracuse @ Wake Forest (-15.5) - Take Syracuse to cover this 15.5 spread - You got to ask yourself....what exactly has happened to Syracuse over the years? Syracuse may suck, but Wake isn't blowing anyone out.

5. Florida State @ Miami (-3.5) - Take Florida State to cover this 3.5 spread - This game will be a struggle offensively for a while, and I don't know if FSU wins this or not, but I do see them covering the spread.

Matt's Picks 1. Mississippi St +6.5 vs South Carolina - I definitely think this game will be close, and if it was a tad higher, say 8 or 9 points I'd take the Bulldogs. This will be a low-scoring affair, but I think USC wins by a touchdown.

2. Tennessee -2.5 vs. Cal - The Volunteer Navy be sinking. Tennessee won't finish with a losing record this season, but Cal is a legitimate top 10 team and they will knock off Tennessee in Knoxville.

3. Georgia Tech +7.5 vs. Notre Dame - As the Jackets say, in Dodd We Trust. Bobby Dodd Stadium will be rocking on Saturday night. Georgia Tech has a very good defense, and as long as Reggie Ball doesn't give the game away the Jackets will be right there. If he plays well, Tech will win. At any rate, they will cover.

4. Wake Forest -15.5 vs. Syracuse - My Deacs are favored by quite a large margin in this game. It ain't Duke, so they ain't covering.

5. Miami -3.5 vs. Florida State - Miami is missing 4 players for this game. As usual, this one will end in a missed field goal for Florida State. At least the Noles cover.

Yes, believe it or not, the kid in the picture above is already better than South Carolina quarterback Blake Mitchell. Carolina fans over the weekend were running their mouth saying "Will Korn sucks, he threw 3 interceptions." One word that I have to say to that - bitter. And understandbly so.

If you honestly believe South Carolina QB Blake Mitchell is a better QB than Will Korn right now, you are dead wrong. Thing about it is, there's a great chance that Will Korn may already be better than Will Proctor at Clemson, but I won't go there. He's definitely a better athlete than Mitchell is and some will say that he already throws a better ball than Blake Mitchell. Contributor Joshua Richards told me last night that Korn doesn't have that strong of an arm, and he doesn't think he's that good. Joshua Richards also went on to say that Korn reminds him of Phil Petty - he can only throw lob passes. Joshua....just because he threw 3 interceptions yesterday doesn't mean that much, that's only one game, he'll probably go the rest of the year without throwing another interception

I think you and I can agree on that Contributor Joshua Richards is a buffoon. Well, actually he also said last night that California and West Virginia will play in the national championship this year as well. Do These Gamecocks All Look High To You Or What? Say Spurrier Is Tough On Discipline, I Dare Ya

Unlike last year, we haven't really seen much trouble come from the gameock camp this year. Last year in the papers we were reading lines like these: "Along with Johnson and Erving, nine other current or former Gamecock football players have been arrested on charges ranging from domestic violence to grand larceny since the end of last season. Also, running back Demetris Summers was dismissed from the team for violating a university rule."

It's good to finally see the Gamecock program cleaned up, or at least ..... I thought they were cleaned up. What were these guys smoking before they arrived to get their picture taken? Ty Erving, who was arrested last year, located in the top right hand corner was involved in violating team rules again this year! A couple of weeks ago, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier announced that wide receiver Noah Whiteside and safety Ty Erving will miss the first three games of the season for violating university policy. Spurrier also told reporters at his golf outing that the underlying cause of the suspension was academics and that Whiteside isn't eligible now but could be if "he passes everything at the end of the summer."

Why hasn't this Erving guy been kicked off the team yet? I just .... I don't understand. I like how this world is full of 2nd chances and all, but he's already received a 2nd chance. I would like to say that Spurrier has really cleaned up the program in Columbia, but after seeing this ..... I just can't bring myself to do it. USC will never get their program truly turned around until they clean their act 100% ..... not 88.5%.

QB Controversy In Columbia?

The simple answer to this question is no...... at least not this year. I can see it now, USC will beat MSU by 3 points and Mitchell will have had just a horrible game. There will be tons of USC fans complaining and asking why isn't Chris Smelley playing. Smelley has the potential to be a great QB at USC. He has looked good in practices and in scrimmages. Like I said, he has potential. However, potential has never won a football game. Below I am going to list a few reasons why Blake Mitchell will start every game this year barring injury.

1. Smelley is a freshman - If you are a freshman that means that you have never been in a college game right? I know Smelley was a big deal in Alabama but he has never played in front of 80,000 people screaming so loud you can't hear. Never seen the athletes you will see on defense in the SEC. Never played a game on national television or felt the pressure that comes along with that.

2. Blake Mitchell produces - Blake completed about 60% of his passes for 2,370 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also threw 12 interceptions. I'm not a betting man but... wait a minute yes I am. I bet you Mitchell will throw for over 20 touchdowns this year and only 7 interceptions. Why you may ask. He has a year under his belt of seeing tough competition. He is more familiar with what Spurrier is trying to do. And he has Sidney Rice.

Now, I'm not saying Smelley will not play. I am just saying he will not start one game all year. If we want Smelley to be a great QB he has to play. I am going to make my prediction that Smelley will see his first action with 8:05 left in the 4th quarter of the Mississippi State game. So if Mitchell has a poor game at some point in the season don't call for his head. He is a good QB. Let's save the controversy talk for next year.

This might be pretty dumb to post about, but I seriously don't like the new referee uniforms. I don't know whose decision it was to make this move or what the reasoning was behind it, but I demand today that they go back to the old ones. Was it the beer commercials with referees that forced them to change their look? Or was it just a new "cool and hip" style that all the young kids are moving towards and I'm just out of the loop on? Whatever it is, they need to change it back, do you like the new ones better than the old ones?

Former Maryland basketball star Lonny Baxter was arrested Wednesday by the secret service for firing shots near the White House. Let's take a minute for this to sink in. You read correctly, the secret service! I'm no sports historian but this has to be the first time an athlete has been arrested by the secret service for firing shots near the White House. Come on now Lonny!! I think that Lonny is one of these guys that just needs to experience everything. He won an NCAA national championship, I am sure with this came lots of sexual conquests, he played in the NBA, became a millionaire and then he realized he had accomplished almost everything. Coach Cremins has been able to re-recruit Jermaine Johnson. Coach Cremins made a cross-country trip to Los Angeles to meet with Johnson and his family at their home. My sources have confimed that Johnson was quoted as saying "That made a big impact. That let me know he actually cared. That let me know he cared about me, he cared about my family, he cared about the team" If that is not proof that a coach can begin to make team better then I do not know what is proof. Well I'm here today to end it. We are finally going to put that game, the catch, and all the film to it to rest. This will be the last time you S. Carolina fans and Clemson fans will be able to watch it. So for the South Carolina fans who still lose sleep from this Rod Gardner catch, I will say this: there was contact on both sides. That call usually goes to the home team. I can see where it was questionable, but whining about it is ridiculous.

I don't want to predict to far into the future but I feel very confident that USC will be 4-0 and of course I am going to tell you why.

1. Mississippi State- With all do respect to my good buddy Michael Reese, who seems to think the Miss. State game may be a trap.... this game is going to be a laugher. Sure, they have a lot of starters coming back but they are not very good. Congratualtions guys! You beat Ole Miss last year but then again beating Old Miss is kind of like being the smartest kid in special ed, it just doesn't matter. USC 38 - Miss State 10

2. Georgia - The Georgia game always seems to be a tough game and USC always seems to be right there and make silly mistakes that cost them the game. I believe this year will different. Georgia's starting quarterback will be suspect as well as their secondary. The 2 starters from lst year are gone as well as the projected starter. (suspended for 2 games) Steve Spurrier will have a game plan ready to take the Bulldogs down in front of 80,000 rowdy gamecock fans. USC 17 - UGA 14

3.Wofford- I will always be partial to the Terriers. However, even a few years ago when the Terriers made it to the semi-finals they were no match for a South Carolina team and this years Terriers team is weak to say the least. They are not even top 3 this year in the Southern Conference USC 42 - Wofford 9

4. Florida Atlantic - I know, I know.... the beginning of the schedule is a little weak. However the Georgia win will help people to forget that. The Florida Atlantic game will be nothing more than an opportunty to tweak the offense and get ready for Auburn with a chance to go 5-0. USC 31 - Florida Atlantic 17

How Much Will Clemson Miss This Guy?

By the end of his career, there were a lot of Clemson fans who were glad to see Charlie Whitehurst go. Glad you say?? Yes ..... believe it or not, they probably took a swig of Steve Spurrier kool-aid and took a hit off of Syvelle Newton's bong first before they said it, but they did say that they were glad to see Charlie go! I'm proud to say that I was not one of those.

No offense to Will Proctor. He'll be a great QB for us this year and may very well fit into the Rob Spence system better than Charlie however ........ If we run into a game as we did last year (Miami) where our short/quick screen plays and running game are stopped, we have to have a QB that can throw it and throw it well. (Not saying that Will can't throw good, I'm sure he can, but I doubt if he can throw as good as Charlie could)
Now hopefully...... between our Defense being so strong, our running game being solid, and just our overall system working and clicking better this year, hopefully it won't come down throwing the ball 53 times to try and win a game this year like Charlie had to against Miami.

What I'm saying is this. Even though Proctor might be a better fit for Rob Spence, and even though.... let's say Proctor is faster and smarter than Charlie, if we do run into a game or two like the Miami one, and we are forced to throw between 40 to 50 times ..... Clemson fans might then realize how much Charlie meant to our team!

Every offseason in college football, the NCAA makes minor changes and clarifications to its rules. This offseason the NCAA made a very quiet change that could have a profound impact on the way the game is played. After every dead ball thats results in a change of possession (punt, fumble, int, turnover on downs, kickoff) or rekick the clock will run on the ready for play signal from the official instead of on the snap. This means prudent coaches can run about 25 extra seconds off the clock per possession. Over the course of a game this will lower the possessions per game by at least one and possibly two per team. What does this mean?

1) Underdogs will win more games. A smaller sample size (number of possessions) means more variability.

2) The 'under' wager may be a good play this season.

3) Hands off coaches (Pete Carroll) and those that should be living in a group home (Tommy Bowden) may get caught with their pants down on occasion.

I think this rule change lasts one year only. Here's a hypothetial situation. On Labor Day night in front of a national audience, Florida State scores with 35 seconds left to go up by a single point on Miami. On the kickoff Florida State inexplicably puts 12 gentlemen on the field. They kick it deep and tackle Miami after a short return with 30 seconds left. Thinking dimentia has finally taken hold of Bobby Bowden, Lary Coker takes the 15 yard penalty and has Florida State rekick from their 20 (instead of the 35). However, once the referees spot the ball ready for play the game clock begins to count down. Stunned, Larry Coker has two options. He can use a timeout (if he has one) to stop the clock, or he can watch helplessly as Florida State booms the kick with roughly 5 seconds left. Hey, it could happen.

Apparantly, Maurice was driving around in Ohio with 4 loaded guns and a bullet proof vest on. I know he had on a bullet proof vest because the cops tried to shoot him with a stun gun and it didn't work. Anyway, so Maurice does a U-turn and the cops decide to pull him over. However, Clarett had other ideas. I guess he figured, well I have a bullet proof vest on, what the hell... I'll run. So Maurice is driving through Ohio from the cops and they finaly have stop the vehicle with spike strips. Now is when Maurice should have just given up but then again I think he felt invinsible... you know, because of the vest and all. So, he fights with police and they have to eventualy use pepper spray on him. I know what your thinking and the answer is no! He still didn't give up. The cops proceeded to place some sort of cotton mask on him because he decided it was a good idea to spit on police officers. I think the officers may have taken this action personaly because if you notice in his picture above he looks a little beat up.

They finaly get Maurice under control and take him to jail. This is when an interesting development occurs. The judge set his bail at $5 million dollars. Why so much you may ask? Well, as you may know Clarrett was set to stand trial on a robbery outside of a bar. It was suppose to begin next week. The bail is high because Maurice just happened to be driving around with 4 loaded guns and a bullet proof vest on only a few blocks from a womans house that was going to testify against him.

FSU Cowgirl Jenn Sterger Update

This girl is so hot right now, she could take a crap, wrap it in tinfoil, put a couple fish hooks on it and sell 'em to Queen Elizabeth as earrings. FSU Cowgirl Jenn Sterger has turned her 15 minutes of fame into what's become a few months of fame. She's done Maxim, Playboy and likely a few dudes.

If you still don't know who Jenn is, then let me tell you a little bit about her background. During a Florida State game against Miami on September 5, 2005, a brief two-second shot on national television turned her into a phenomenon. After she and two friends, Danae Sims and Fabiola Romero, were featured in a bleacher shot during this game, announcer Brent Musburger commented that “15,000 young red-blooded American men just signed up to go to Florida State next semester.” Some of those young men found her in bikini photos on the social network site Facebook, sent the link to friends, and Sterger was soon the online embodiment of the concupiscent co-ed.

Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad Boy.......You Make Me Feel So Good

Have you ever had a close female friend of yours date a "Bad" guy before? It's like shes in a trance and there is absolutely nothing you can do or say to her to change her mind. It's like how the song goes: "he's a bad, bad, bad, bad boy, but he makes me feel so good," ....... "he's a bad, bad, bad, bad boy, but still I wouldn't change it if I could." Well, that's kind of how the Atlanta Falcons are! The Atlanta Falcons are the close sweet female friend that you have, and the "bad" guy they won't get rid of is Michael Vick.

If his injuries, poor throws, and lack of smarts on the field over the last few years are not enough to get rid of him, then what is? Is it because he is bringing them loads and loads of money? Michael Vick may not have sold as many video games as the Super Mario Brothers did, or as many as Sonic the Hedgehog did, but he sure has come close. Michael Vick may not have sold as many jerseys as Batman sold costume outfits, but he has come really close to that as well. Maybe thats the reason they haven't got rid of him yet, but even if they did, I feel as if they would still make a good profit without him though.

In my opinion, this is why Atlanta won't get rid of Michael Vick. They care more about money than winning football games or winning a Super Bowl. Atlanta has hosted 2 Super Bowls over the last 12 years (94,00), isn't it about time that the Falcons finally attend one? Someone needs to rip that Michael Vick jersey off of Arthur Blank, yank the controller to Madden 2004 and tell him that he's wasting his time if he thinks Michael Vick will ever take them to the Super Bowl. Just because he's accomplished that 487,397 times on Playstation 2, that doesn't mean that he can do it in real life!
I'm not upset over this though. I am a diehard Panthers fan and I am happy to see the Atlanta Falcons have Michael Vick line up behind center. Thing is, as we saw last year, some teams have figured the Michael Vick show out ....... other teams are soon to follow. It's just a shame that its going to take 31 speedy linebackers to get the Atlanta Falcons to eventually figure it out and trade this bad, bad, bad, bad boy!

This Sport Is Horrible

Let's just go ahead and design all of the other professional sports around the way soccer is designed. Imagine if Game 7 of the NBA Championship ended in a tie, and they decided the winners by shooting five free throws apiece. Imagine if the Superbowl ended in a tie, and they chose five players from each side to kick field goals to decide the winner. Imagine if the World Series ended in a tie, and they picked five pitchers aside to throw strikes, or five catchers to throw out base runners, or five batters to have a home run hitting contest.

This would be absolutely insane, and ludicrous, and unjust. America is based on a just and efficient meritocracy that thrives on measured competition. That's why soccer has never really quite caught on here. They play a whole game and often the only score is a single goal awarded based on a flop in the penalty area. Americans would never stand for it. It reeks of random injustice and unearned glory.

Could you imagine if they played a whole basketball game and no one was able to score and then based on one foul the other team got a free throw worth fifty points? That about sums up soccer. In America, we believe in second chances. There's almost always hope that you can catch up in basketball and football. In soccer, you fall behind by two goals and you're pretty much done.

1. Floyd Landis -
Floyd, I am insulted. I saw you on Good Morning America yesterday.

I think I speak for the rest of the world when I say... shut up! We know you did it. There are only two things Americans hate more than steroids .... that's cycling and liars. You've got the trifecta. GO AWAY!

2. Dale Davis -
What was on Dales mind? For those of you not familiar with the story, Davis was arrested Tuesday at a Miami Beach hotel and accused of threatening police and security guards and shouting profanities, police said. The best part however is that he was shot with a taser gun. Apparantly he started walking towards the cops with his fist balled up. He was warned that if he continued he would be shot. Now this is where normal people would stop. I take that back, normal people do not threaten the police. So, Dale continued and was shot. Way to go Dale! But then again he did go to Clemson.

3. Barrett Brooks -
Brooks is an offensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I point out Barrett being stupid for 2 main reasons.

1. Never run the cops, especially on a motorcycle. I mean, what's Brooks? About 350 pounds? Even if he gets away, the cops can automaticaly narrow their list of suspects. There can't be that many 350 pounders that own bikes.
2. Why was he even on a bike? Didn't someone else famous in Pittsburgh almost die on a bike. Where's your head at Barrett?

It's August, the Panthers are starting training camp in my home town and I am a little excited. How great is football season? Just think, in a few weeks we will be getting off work on Fridays and have a weekend full of football. I know it's still early and training camp has just began but I am very optomistic about the Panthers chances of returning to the Super Bowl. A huge reason for this optimisim is the man in the video above... Steve Smith.

Little Big Man

Steve Smith is a bad man. He runs the 40 in 4.38 seconds, has a 38 inch vertical leap and will absolutely out muscel DB's. He does all this at 5'9 and 180 pounds. Like I said he is a bad man! Let's take a look back at what he did last year.

Last year Smith won the "Triple Crown" of football. He led the NFL with 1,563 receiving yards and tied for first in the League with 103 receptions and 12 touchdown catches.The last person to do this was former USC star Sterling Sharpe back in 1992. What makes this so great is that he did this as the primary and basicaly only receiver Jake Delhome threw to. The opposing coach knew who the ball was going to, the DB's knew, the commentators knew and even the fans knew. Still Smith had 103 receptions. He is a bad man!

In the postseason Smith had 45 receptions and 6 touchdowns, rushed for 45 yards and one touchdown and had 7 punt returns for 73 yards and a touchdown. Let's not forget how he single handedly destroyed the Bears. He is a bad man!

With the addition of Keyshawn Johnson, a great posession receiver that can make the tough catches over the middle, I expect more of the same from Smith this year. GO PANTHERS!!

You, me, USC fans, GT fans, FSU fans ....... we are all thinking the same thing. There is a really good chance that Clemson will be playing in this game in December. I know that I am thinking hard about purchasing some tickets this week before they sell out. Tickets to this game don't sell out as quick as a Pearl Jam or Metallica concert use to sell-out back in the mid to late 90's, but these tickets will still sell at a very quick rate.

You have 2 options here: A. Buy tickets to hopefully go see your Clemson Tigers make it or B. If Clemson does not make it, no big deal, you can sell them on e-bay and probably get your money back and make a profit. Let's play the "what if" game for a second. "What if" option B is off the table, how confident are you right now to go ahead and buy tickets to this game in confidence that your Clemson Tigers will be there on Dec. 2nd.

I have to admit it, I feel like we have a very strong shot to make it, but if option B was off the table, I couldn't see myself buying those tickets this early in advance because of "confidence" in Tommy Bowden. Keep in mind, I like Tommy. But for you Clemson fans out there who do have some balls the size of grapefruits, here is the link http://www.accchampionship.com . Clemson Fans View of the World

As we all know I am a University of South Carolina fan. I have noticed one thing about our rivals, the Clemson Tigers. They are completely unrealistic. 96 percent of all Tiger fans are slightly insane. This includes my good friend Reese, which writes on this blog, and my boy Brad at The Bradford Report. It goes without saying but this definitely includes almost everyone on Tigernet.

Does Clemson have a good team? yes
Is Clemson more talented than USC this year? probably =)
Do they have a great running back? yes
Is he as good as Reggie Bush was in college? NO!
Will he ever win the Heisman? Has Hell frozen over?

Every major college football team has rabid fans that believe there team is great; USC included. The main difference with Clemson is that their fans believe they are far superior to everyone else. For example: Will Proctor can throw a football a quarter mile and Tommy Bowden is the second greatest coach of all time (right behind Danny Ford) and Clemson has a great bar scene =). There are a few things that obviously need to be pointed out to Tiger fans.

1. If you own a pair of orange overalls, you my friend are a loser.
2. If you wear them out in public, you do not deserve to live.
3. Will Proctor will set a record for interceptions in a season.
4. You will not win the ACC.... you will not even come in second.
5. CJ Spiller is on steroids. Someone needs to ask him to pee in a cup.

I want to end this with a message to the rabid Clemson fans. The next time you think of something to say about your team. Stop.... think.... say nothing.

Wilson, I'm So Sorry!

Wilson Betemit continued to show how great of a player he is Sunday. He went 3-4 with 2 doubles. Unfortunately it was for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Betemit was traded Friday in a deal that I absolutely hate.I have a lot of problems with this trade but for the purpose of this blog I am going only list my top 3 problems.

1.Betemit is a great player-
Obviously, I think Betemit is a great player. Not only is he a great player now but he has potential to be even better in the future when he gets to play everyday. Why would you trade one of your top prospects for a relief pitcher that has struggled horribly this year? It just doesn't make sense to me.

2. Chipper Jones-
Chipper Jones is a panzy! I said it! It needed to be said... PANZY! This guys stays on the DL. Whatever happened to players playing through injuries? Do you mean to tell me that Cal Ripken Jr. never felt a little sore during his playing days? He played in over 2,000 straight games! So, knowing Chipper Jones is as fragile as Terrel Owen's ego, why would you trade your best player to back him up.

3. Dodgers Farm System-
This isn't really a problem I have, just an observation. It seems that the Dodgers new farm team is the Atlanta Braves. 4 of the Dodgers first 5 hitters yesterday were former Braves. (Furcal, Lofton, Drew and Betemit)

My new wish is for someone really filthy rich to buy the Braves and start spending some money and my new pick for the NL wildcard is the LA Dodgers.

Notre Dame Will Win This "Reggie Ball" Game

First off, I apologize to Metallica for posting this. The Georgia Tech fan who put "Enter Sandman" in a Georgia Tech highlight video is a slap in the face to Metallica

I was goofing around today on the internet and found myself at http://www.SouthernPigskin.com and I saw where they had a list of games that they think could very well be upsets. One game that was on their list I totally have to disagree with though - Notre Dame @ Georgia Tech. It would be different if Georgia Tech didn't play all their home games in a high school football stadium - it would be different if they didn't run out of the tunnel with that stupid car leading the pack first - it would be different if their football team averaged more points than their baseball team did - it would be different if Georgia Tech actually had a quarterback who could throw. They call Reggie Ball a dual threat quarterback because he can run but they're forgetting about one thing.......he CAN'T THROW! So therefore he's not dual threat.

No, this game won't even be close. If Notre Dame is the favorite, (which they will be), and the line is anywhere from 10 points or lower .... take the Irish, and put a lot on them. Think about it, this Georgia Tech team lost to Utah in the Emerald Bowl 38-10 last year. No, I did not studder, you heard me correctly, the "Emerald Bowl." Just because Georgia Tech opened last years season up with a 23-14 win against Auburn doesn't mean that they will open up a win this year against #2 Notre Dame.

I don't care that Georgia Tech is returning 9 starters on the offensive side of the ball. I don't care that they had road wins at Auburn and at Miami last year. I don't care that All-American WR Calvin Johnson can jump up, touch the lights and come back down and catch a ball. By the way, Notre Dame has 8 returning starters on offense coming back this year, and 9 returning starters on defense. Reality is Reality ...... Reggie Ball is a below average QB, Bobby Dodd Stadium is about as intimidating as a high school stadium, and whereas last year's Notre Dame team thought it could be good, this year's version knows it can and should be great. Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, .............

Should the Carolina Panthers have traded him in the offseason? Yes! The chronic problems that killed the Panthers last year were two -- an unstable running game and the lack of a weapon to draw defenders away from Steve Smith. Somehow they were able to draft DeAngelo Williams, who by the way as of this past Thursday night reached an agreement of a 5 year $10 million dollar deal, to help remedy those problems by splitting time with DeShaun and to be the workhorse when DeShaun sprains his pinky. Go ahead De ....... Angelo that is, not DeShaun.

Asked what he can do to stay healthy, Foster said there was only one thing left for him to try: "I guess I need to drink more milk -- at least that's what my mom says." Enough Said!
